Meeting with Mayor Bloomberg & Pullen Park preview

It’s been an exciting and busy time for me since the October 11 mayoral elections. I’ve participated in a number of activities and efforts in recent weeks and wanted to share with you some of what I’ve been doing since the election:

In early November I traveled to New York City to meet with Mayor Bloomberg at city hall. New York City has an enormous responsibility to serve the largest municipality in the nation. Over 300,000 city staff – teachers, firefighters, police officers, public health officials, transit employees and more – are directed by city council and the mayor. It’s a tremendous challenge to stay on top of a city of that size, but Mayor Bloomberg is managing well and the results speak for themselves. Bloomberg and I discussed the challenges and opportunities facing 21st Century cities like NYC and Raleigh. From our conversation I learned a great deal about expanding the arts, meeting the needs of changing demographics and strategies for enhancing city staff synergy. I also shared Raleigh’s continued success and economic viability with Mayor Bloomberg and all that our city is doing to improve entrepreneurial access through emerging small business efforts like the Small Business Initiative and Commission.

Mayor Bloomberg and I chatted for over an hour and we both gained amazing insight into what we can do to help make cities collectively succeed.

One of Raleigh’s premier amusement and recreational destinations is the historic Pullen Park in west Raleigh. Pullen has served Raleigh residents for many years, and the recent renovation will ensure that residents will continue to visit Pullen well into the future.
