Nancy McFarlane: “On Tuesday, August 2, 2011 I joined two communities in celebrating National Night Out, a holiday dedicated to improving crime-prevention awareness and public safety. I had the pleasure of visiting the Autumn Trace Apartments in Northeast Raleigh on Tarwick Rd. Autumn Trace was bustling with activity and celebration for National Night Out. I spoke with neighbors to hear what they value in their community, and learned that safe neighborhoods and gathering places like parks and community centers are a priority for Autumn Trace residents. I was pleased to learn that most residents supportive of the direction that our city is heading and want to keep Raleigh moving forward!
Following an evening council meeting, I visited Tarborro Rd Community Center in East/Central Raleigh. Nearly 1,000 neighbors attended the event to celebrate National Night Out and to enjoy hot dogs, snacks, games, and music. It was a terrific celebration and a true testament to Raleigh’s support for crime-prevention initiatives.
As the next mayor of Raleigh, I am dedicated to serving all communities across our city and was excited to see new faces and reconnect with old friends on the 28th annual National Night Out!
