Raleigh Gets Dix Park in Historic Preservation of Green Space

Dix Park Press Conference- Gov. McCrory & Mayor McFarlane

After long negotiations, Mayor McFarlane is thrilled to announce that the City of Raleigh has secured 308 acres of the Dorathea Dix property in downtown Raleigh to be preserved as a destination park!

At the press conference announcing the deal, which you can watch HERE, Mayor McFarlane said “Land deals of this magnitude take time, patience, and a willingness to work through the difficult details. As North Carolina’s capital city, Raleigh has an obligation to the citizen’s of the entire state to be forward thinking while honoring the historic value of the property.  We work hard to be an example of what makes North Carolina the greatest state in the nation. Securing these 300+ acres for the generations to come demonstrates to the rest of the world that North Carolina has vision and the wherewithal to see that that vision comes to a reality.”
